Regulatory investment tests for transmission
AEMO conducts regulatory investment tests for transmission (RIT-T) on potential transmission network and non-network projects.
The purpose of the RIT-T, as set out at clause 5.16 of the electricity Rules, is to identify the credible option that maximises the present value of net economic benefit to all those who produce, consume and transport electricity in the market.
Metropolitan Melbourne Voltage Management RIT-T
AEMO Victorian Planning (AVP) is undertaking a Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission (RIT-T) to identify the preferred option to maintain voltages within operational and design limits in Metropolitan Melbourne during both high and low demand periods.

Victorian System Strength Requirement RIT-T
AEMO as the System Strength Service Provider for Victoria is undertaking a Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission (RIT-T) to address system strength requirements in Victoria from December 2025.

Victoria to New South Wales Interconnector West (VNI West) RIT-T
AEMO and TransGrid are undertaking a joint Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission (RIT-T) to assess the technical and economic viability of expanding interconnector capacity between Victoria and New South Wales to address existing network limitations and deliver net market benefits in the long-term interests of Australian energy consumers

AEMO recently completed a Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission (RIT-T) to assess the technical and economic viability of increasing transmission network capacity to address current limitations in the Western Victoria transmission network, in accordance with the National Electricity Rules (NER).
