Update to South Australian system black restoration.

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE.

POWER SYSTEM EVENT

At 1618 hrs the SA power system separated from the NEM and became black. A very large lightning storm was traveling across the state at the time. Refer MN# 54994

AT 1813 hrs the restoration is proceeding as per AEMO's restoration plan a connection to Victoria has been restored. As more information becomes available further updates will be sent.

AEMO has become aware of the following circumstance(s) with respect to the power system,

At 1618 hrs the SA power system separated from the NEM and became black. A very large lightning storm was traveling across the state at the time.

The exact number of effected transmission elements are unknown at this time.

Approximately 1900MW was shed as part of this incident. All generation and load in SA was lost.

AEMO has initiated its South Australian black start procedures and has begun restoring South Australia from two sources.

AEMO has issued this Market Notice in accordance with the NER Cl 4.8.3.

Update - Non-credible contingency event - Qld region - 18/09/16

Update to MN 54932.

At 2135 hrs the Ross 4 Transformer 132 kV CB 4442 was returned to service.

The cause of this non-credible contingency event has been identified and AEMO is satisfied that another occurrence of this event is unlikely under the current circumstances.

AEMO will not reclassify this event as a credible contingency event.

At 1956 hrs the Ross 4 Transformer 132 kV CB 4442 opened at the 132 kV connection only.

AEMO did not instruct load shedding.

AEMO has not been advised of any disconnection of bulk electrical load.

The cause of this non credible contingency event is not known at this stage.

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE

Refer to AEMO Market Notices: 54734, 54735 and 54864.

Forecast Lack Of Reserve Level 2 (LOR2) in South Australia Region for the following periods:

On 13/09/2016 from 0700 hrs to 1700 hrs;
On 14/09/2016 from 0700 hrs to 1700 hrs; and
On 16/09/2016 from 0700 hrs to 1700 hrs.

AEMO declares Forecast LOR2 conditions in the South Australia region for the above periods. During these periods, outages are scheduled for Moorabool to Mortlake No.2 500 kV transmission line in Victoria region.

On the occurrence of a credible contingency during these outages, South Australia region could separate from the rest of the NEM and is likely to result in interruptions to power supplies in South Australia.

There are sufficient capacity reserves in the South Australia region to meet electricity demand but following the next credible contingency it may not be possible to bring the required additional capacity into service in time to avoid automatic under-frequency load shedding causing interruptions to power supplies in South Australia.

AEMO declares Forecast LOR2 conditions for the South Australia region during the following planned outages:

Heywood No.2 500 kV busbar in Victoria region, from 0700 hrs on 06/09/2016 to 1700 hrs on 09/09/2016.
Heywood to Mortlake 500 kV line in Victoria region, from 0730 hrs to 1630 hrs on 06/09/2016.
Heywood to Mortlake 500 kV line in Victoria region, from 0730 hrs to 1630 hrs on 07/09/2016.

On the occurrence of a credible contingency during these planned outages, South Australia region could separate from the rest of the NEM and is likely to result in interruptions to power supplies in South Australia.
