Power is being restored to SA via the Victora to South Australia Heywood interconnector.,
At 1940 hrs the following constraint was applied to the Victoria to South Australia Heywood interconnector.

POWER SYSTEM EVENT
At 1618 hrs the SA power system separated from the NEM and became black. A very large lightning storm was traveling across the state at the time. Refer MN# 54994
AT 1813 hrs the restoration is proceeding as per AEMO's restoration plan a connection to Victoria has been restored. As more information becomes available further updates will be sent.

At 1618 hrs the SA power system separated from the NEM and became black. A very large lightning storm was traveling across the state at the time.
The exact number of effected transmission elements are unknown at this time.
Approximately 1900MW was shed as part of this incident. All generation and load in SA was lost.
AEMO has initiated its South Australian black start procedures and has begun restoring South Australia from two sources.
AEMO has issued this Market Notice in accordance with the NER Cl 4.8.3.

The negative residue constraint set NRM_QLD1_NSW1 commenced operating from 1840 hrs on 22 September 2016.

At 2135 hrs the Ross 4 Transformer 132 kV CB 4442 was returned to service.
The cause of this non-credible contingency event has been identified and AEMO is satisfied that another occurrence of this event is unlikely under the current circumstances.
AEMO will not reclassify this event as a credible contingency event.

AEMO did not instruct load shedding.
AEMO has not been advised of any disconnection of bulk electrical load.
The cause of this non credible contingency event is not known at this stage.
