WEM Implementation Roadmap
What is the WEM Implementation Roadmap?
The WEM Implementation Roadmap is a publicly available schedule of all the initiatives and projects to be delivered by AEMO’s WA Reform Program. These include policy initiatives for which EPWA has published exposure draft rules, as well as projects established by AEMO. The function of the Roadmap is to:
- Provide transparency to stakeholders on AEMO’s proposed reform implementation.
- Allow the timing of initiatives and projects to be tracked, updated, and reported throughout the life of those projects.
- Provide AEMO, EPWA and other WEM stakeholders with an explicit and shared view of the work program to enable improved understanding of changing requirements and inform better forward planning.
- Give all WEM stakeholders a shared view of the work program and shared language (e.g. project names), to allow clearer communication and alignment.
Information captured on the Roadmap
The Roadmap will cover all the initiatives and projects within the remit of the WA Reform Program and will incorporate a Gantt Chart view, purpose and scope summaries for all covered items, explanatory definitions and notes, and logs of successive versions and changes between versions. Further the Roadmap will:
- Show the timing and duration of all covered initiatives and projects.
- Indicate whether a given change is driven by Regulatory or Operational considerations.
- Indicate linkages (where applicable) to regulatory processes and artefacts and/or implementation assessments.
- Show externally relevant milestones (where known) such as rule commencement dates and release dates.
- Set out the latest dollar amounts allocated to each item by financial year, over the three-year forward horizon.
Update frequency
The Roadmap will be updated and republished at regular intervals at least three times per year. AEMO envisages that new versions will be republished within three weeks of the regular MPWG meeting for which the revision was produced. The Roadmap may also be updated out-of-cycle, at AEMO’s discretion.

Stay informed
The roadmap is maintained by AEMO, taking into account the policy priorities of Energy Policy WA, operational drivers identified by AEMO and feedback provided by stakeholders through the MPWG. For information on the MPWG, see AEMO Major Projects Working Group.
