AEMO's Forecasting Reference Group (FRG) is comprised of AEMO, consumer and industry representatives who meet each month to discuss gas and electricity forecasting and market modelling topics.

Recent meetings have included presentations and discussions on components for the 2025 Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO) and 2025 Inputs, Assumptions and Scenarios Report (IASR).

Submissions on the Draft report closed on 31 March and subsequent FRG meetings have allowed stakeholders to share additional feedback and reflections on the various inputs which support the development of the 2025 ESOO and 2026 Integrated System Plan.

The April meeting on draft data centre forecasts and ESOO methodological improvements attracted more than 100 stakeholders; an out of cycle meeting focusing on multi-sectoral modelling in May drew more than 180 participants; and 113 stakeholders attended on 28 May to discuss draft forecasts for electricity consumption used in the ESOO, demand side participation, retirement costs and pumped hydro energy storage (PHES) build limits.

The next 2025 FRG meeting will be held on 17 June 2025. Topics will include draft minimum demand forecasts, draft transmission and generator outage rate forecasts, and cost escalation factors.

Register here to attend the 17 June 2025 meeting and email energy.forecasting@aemo.com.au to be added to the FRG mailing list.
