Enterprise agreement update

AEMO has put forward an enterprise agreement offer that delivers strong, certain wage growth and enhancements for employees while ensuring it is sustainable for our organisation, aligns with stakeholder expectations and considers costs to consumers.

Professionals Australia has indicated that its members will commence protected industrial action, starting with impacts to internal meetings, communications and administrative activities.

While Professionals Australia has provided some assurances that their members would not engage in protected industrial action that would pose an immediate risk to health and safety, AEMO holds concerns that Professionals Australia does not fully appreciate the impacts certain protected actions may have and the risks this could create.

As a not-for-profit market body, AEMO’s costs are ultimately borne by consumers. Advocating for disruption across the energy sector and higher costs to consumers should be avoided.

Background

  • AEMO is a not-for-profit market body responsible for the operation of Australia’s largest energy systems and markets and planning of the National Electricity Market.
  • AEMO recovers its costs primarily from market participants through fees set under national energy legislation in consultation with stakeholders, which are passed through to consumers’ retail bills.
  • Approximately 5% of AEMO employees are members of Professionals Australia.
  • AEMO respects the lawful right of eligible employees to participate in protected industrial action.
  • The parties will be participating in a Fair Work Commission Conciliation process.
