AEMO is now more than halfway through the development of the 2026 Integrated System Plan (ISP) and is close to publishing the Draft 2026 ISP, which is scheduled for release in just a few weeks.
Stakeholder input and collaboration have again been critical to the development of the Draft 2026 ISP, with more than 1,100 stakeholders involved over the past 18 months, and more expected to get involved in consultation on the Draft 2026 ISP from December.
Most recently, AEMO published the scenario weighting results for the 2026 ISP, following engagement with 25 energy sector representatives to assess the likelihood of key parameters shaping the energy transition.
Through this process 'Step Change' was identified as the most likely of the three scenarios for the Draft 2026 ISP (46%), with equal weighting of 27% likelihood for 'Slower Growth' and 'Accelerated Transition'.
More information about the process and results is available in the overview.
Upcoming engagement opportunities
In December 2025, AEMO will release two key publications:
- Transition Plan for System Security: released on 1 December 2025, the 2025 Transition Plan for System Security (TPSS) describes how AEMO plans to maintain power system security through the transition, and communicates our current technical understanding of the needs and services required.
- Draft 2026 ISP: released on 10 December 2025, the Draft 2026 ISP is a roadmap for the National Electricity Market power system that outlines the mix of generation, storage and network investments required to meet both consumer needs and government energy and emissions targets between now and 2050.

Learn more about the ISP
AEMO released the ISP Toolkit in July 2025 to support stakeholder understanding of the ISP and engagement opportunities.
The toolkit provides important information about what the ISP is, how it contributes to Australia’s energy transition, and opportunities for stakeholders to get involved.
The ISP Toolkit is available on AEMO’s website.
