Directions to New South Wales Generators - 18 December 2025 to 19 December 2025
During the period from 18 December 2025 to 19 December 2025, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) issued directions to New South Wales Market Participants to maintain the system within secure operating limits.
On 18 December 2025, AEMO was managing low reserve conditions in the New South Wales region. The latest declared LOR2 forecast indicated reserve levels below the LOR2 trigger from 1830 hrs to 1930 hrs, with available capacity reserve of 492MW not meeting the 730MW requirement. An actual LOR2 condition was declared from 1730 hrs for the New South Wales region, as the minimum reserve capacity had dropped below the LOR2 trigger level of 700 MW to 673 MW. AEMO intervened to maintain power system reliability, issuing a direction to WTAHB1.
On 19 December 2025, AEMO was managing low reserve conditions in the New South Wales region. There was no active forecast LOR2 when an LOR2 was calculated by the 1630 hrs PD PASA run. Actual LOR2 conditions were declared for the New South Wales Region from 1600 hrs, as the minimum reserve capacity of 664 MW was below the applicable 700 MW LOR2 trigger level. AEMO intervened to maintain power system reliability, issuing a direction to WTAHB1.
Where AEMO intervenes in the National Electricity Market (NEM) through the use of directions, AEMO must publish a report in accordance with National Electricity Rules (NER) clauses 4.8.9(f) and 3.13.6A.
