This page provides information about AEMO’s consultation on proposed changes to the Methodology for AEMO Intervention Event Compensation.

Overview

AEMO has commenced an expedited consultation to consider proposed amendments to the Methodology for AEMO Intervention Event Compensation. The amendments are required to establish the compensation treatment of single DUID hybrid systems comprising multiple technologies, such as solar generation and battery storage, registering and participating in the National Electricity Market (NEM) as a scheduled bidirectional unit (BDU) under a single Dispatchable Unit Identifier (DUID).

Proposed Changes

AEMO is proposing to update the Methodology for AEMO Intervention Event Compensation as shown in the mark-up version which can be found under the “Draft Consultation Documents” section below.

Consultation Background

This consultation is undertaken as required by the National Electricity Rules (NER) clause 3.12.2(n), following the procedure in NER 8.9.3. AEMO considers that the expedited rules consultation procedure is appropriate because the proposal is non-material. AEMO is seeking feedback on the proposed amendments to the Methodology for AEMO Intervention Event Compensation.

If any person considers that AEMO should follow the standard (rather than expedited) consultative procedure for this proposal, they can submit a request for AEMO to do so (a procedure change request) within 10 business days after publication of this draft report. Any procedure change request must be sent to [email protected] by 5:00pm (Melbourne time) on 30 October 2026. Please see draft report and NER 8.9.3 for details.

AEMO invites written submissions from interested persons on this draft report and the proposal to [email protected] by 5:00pm (Melbourne time) on 13 November 2026.

Please note that submissions will be published, other than confidential material, as per AEMO’s Consultation submission guidelines.

Related Information

AEMO is also preparing a fact sheet outlining the registration and operational requirements for single DUID DC-coupled hybrid systems and intends to publish it in the coming weeks. Participants seeking further information or wishing to register their interest can contact AEMO at [email protected].
