Powerlink has published a Project Assessment Conclusions Report (PACR) to maintain reliability of supply and address condition risks at Tennyson Substation.
Tennyson Substation was established in 2001 to provide an injection point into the Energex distribution network to supply power to the Southern Brisbane and CBD area. Planning studies confirm there is an enduring need for Tennyson Substation to maintain the supply of electricity to the Brisbane area and meet legislative requirements.
The condition of one of the substation’s three transformers (Transformer 3) could place the network at risk of operating with load at risk or not meeting all supply needs.
Powerlink must therefore take action to avoid the increasing likelihood of loss of power arising from failure of the aging Transformer equipment and a range of deterioration issues. The PACR outlines Powerlink’s preferred option to replace Transformer 3 by October 2027. The indicative capital cost of the RIT-T project for the preferred option is $9.69 million in 2026 prices.
