Matter under consultation
Each year, AEMO collaborates with key industry stakeholders to undertake a General Power System Risk Review (GPSRR) report for the National Electricity Market (NEM). The GPSRR is an annual requirement under section 5.20A of the National Electricity Rules (NER), with the GPSRR report being published on or before 31 July each year.
The GPSRR provides a forward-looking view of low-probability but high-impact risks. As the first stage in the annual GPSRR process, the draft approach paper identifies a prioritised set of risks for assessment and outlines the proposed approach, methodologies and assumptions that will guide development of the 2027 GPSRR report.
AEMO is seeking broader stakeholder feedback on the proposed priority risks, assessment methodology, models, assumptions, risk-cost methodology and planned engagement approach. Submissions on the draft 2027 GPSRR Approach Paper in PDF format are due to [email protected] by 5:00pm (AEDT) on Thursday 12 November 2026.
Feedback will inform the final approach paper and help shape the scope and conduct of the assessments that will support the draft and final 2027 GPSRR reports.
Please note that submissions will be published, other than confidential material, as per AEMO’s consultation submission guidelines.
AEMO will also host a webinar on Monday 19 October 2026 from 10:00am to 11:00am (AEDT). This session will provide an overview of the draft 2027 GPSRR Approach Paper and give you the opportunity to ask questions. Register for the session here.
