AEMO’s Consumer Data Platform (CDP) is now helping more consumers find better energy deals with a second comparison website, the Australian Energy Regulator’s (AER) Energy Made Easy (EME) website, using the platform.
With the addition of EME, the AEMO CDP is now serving consumers right across the National Electricity Market (NEM), the single broadest consumer data access service in the sector.
Late last year, the Victorian Government revamped its Victorian Energy Compare (VEC) website, helping Victorian residents and business owners to quickly compare the cheapest electricity offers based on actual electricity usage data through AEMO’s CDP.
AEMO developed the CDP with funding support from the Commonwealth Government to enable third parties to offer consumer-focused services and associated benefits, such as comparing energy deals and accessing new products and services.
AEMO’s Executive General Manager, Emerging Markets and Services, Violette Mouchaileh, said that both of these energy comparison websites are helping consumers make informed decision.
“AEMO welcomes both the AER and the Victorian Government as partners committed to helping Australian energy users find their best energy offers and help consumers manage their electricity costs,” Ms Mouchaileh said.
AER Chair Clare Savage said: "The new features of the Energy Made Easy (EME) price comparator website make it even easier for Australian's to compare energy offers and get the best deal.
Among the new EME features is the energy meter data search option, which was developed by AEMO. This new search function is a practical example of energy market bodies working together to ensure energy consumers are better off," said Ms Savage.
The unique approach to access delivered by AEMO and its partners, via the CDP, has driven the number of VEC data-enabled comparisons up many multiples, compared with the previous corresponding period.
Since VEC went live with the CDP in November 2019, the platform has facilitated more than 89,000 transactions for Victorian energy consumers with a reliable service to access their data.
AEMO’s ability to deliver consumer value with its CDP will help inform and position AEMO to play an important role when the Consumer Date Right (CDR) in energy is introduced in the coming years (mid-to-late 2021).
