Update to system strength limit advice for SA - four synchronous condenser operation

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE

Refer to market notice 91942

AEMO and ElectraNet have been working on moving to four synchronous condenser operation in South Australia. Due to current market and power system conditions AEMO is moving to four synchronous condenser operation for system normal conditions as of 1900hrs 25th November 2021.

Refer to the six generator combinations in Table 3 of the current limits advice (v39) here:
https://www.aemo.com.au/energy-systems/electricity/national-electricity-market-nem/system-operations/congestion-information-resource/limits-advice

Further SA generator combinations will be published tomorrow.

Updated system strength limit advice for SA - any two synchronous condensers

AEMO MARKET NOTICE

Refer to market notices 84211 and 89336

Following new advice from ElectraNet AEMO has published a new version of the SA system strength limits advice. The new advice is that the combinations for two Davenport synchronous condensers can be updated to be for any two synchronous condensers at either Davenport or Robertstown.

For more information refer to the updated limits advice (which has been published today):
https://www.aemo.com.au/energy-systems/electricity/national-electricity-market-nem/system-operations/congestion-information-resource/limits-advice

Update to system normal constraint equation in NSW for voltage collapse at Darlington Point

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE

Refer to Market Notice 75618

TransGrid has advised AEMO on a revision to the Darlington Point to Wagga (63) 330 kV line voltage collapse limit due to upcoming connection of Hillston solar farm.

AEMO has reviewed the limit advice and will update the following constraint equation at 1000 hrs Thursday 23rd September 2021:
N^^N_NIL_2

The limit is for pre-contingent flow on 63 line. The constraint equation includes generators in south-west NSW and north-west Victoria on the left-hand side as well as Murraylink.

Update to non-synchronous limits in South Australia

AEMO MARKET NOTICE

Refer to market notice 89336

As a part of the transition to new limits for the synchronous condensers in South Australia AEMO will increase the non-syncronous limit to 1900 MW. This limit will apply only under system normal conditions only - the current limit will apply for Davenport synchronous condenser or 275kV line outages.

No changes to the SA generator combinations will be made at this stage.

The revision to the limits will be implemented at 1000 hrs on Friday 10th September 2021 with the following changes:
The following constraint equation will be updated:
S_NIL_STRENGTH_1

and the following removed:
S_NIL_STRENGTH_2

Outage constraints will also be updated.

Update to system normal constraint equation in NSW for voltage collapse at Balranald

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE

TransGrid and AEMO completed review of the X5 voltage collapse limit in south west NSW on 30/08/2021. Based on this review, the limit on pre-contingent flow on Balranald to Darlington Point (X5) 220 kV line is increased by 30MW.

The following constraint equation updated today 31/08/2021 at 07:00 .

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE

Refer to market notice 89355

AEMO and Powerlink are continuing to investigate system strength requirements in North Queensland.

A revision to the constraint equations will be implemented at 0915 hrs today.

The new combinations have now published in a limits advice document on AEMO's website: For more information refer to the new limits advice: https://www.aemo.com.au/energy-systems/electricity/national-electricity-market-nem/system-operations/congestion-information-resource/limits-advice

This advice contains all the combinations for Queensland for system normal cases.

The constraint equation in the Q-NIL set of the form below will be modified:

Update to Victorian system normal Kerang voltage stability limit

AEMO ELECTRICITY MARKET NOTICE

Refer to Market Notice 83382

AEMO has completed a comprehensive review of a system normal voltage stability limit in north west Victoria. The revised limit manages pre-contingent flow on the Wemen to Kerang 220 kV line to avoid voltage collapse at Kerang or Wemen on loss of the Crowlands to Bulgana to Horsham or Horsham to Murra Warra to Kiamal 220 kV line. The revised limit is the result of detailed analysis and could potentially lead to higher flows on the Wemen to Kerang 220 kV line.

The revised constraint equation includes generators in south-west NSW and north-west Victoria on the left-hand side as well as Murraylink. Full details on the limits advice are to be published on 19th August 2021 on the AEMO website: https://www.aemo.com.au/energy-systems/electricity/national-electricity-market-nem/system-operations/congestion-information-resource/limits-advice

The revised limit will be implemented at 0800 hrs on Wednesday 18th August 2021, by updating V^^V_NIL_KGTS and removing V^^V_NIL_KGTS_2

For full details on the factors this constraint equation has now been loaded into AEMO's pre-production systems.

For further details on this constraint equation please contact terry.liu@aemo.com.au
