Victorian Government SIPS 2020

The Victorian Government has introduced legislation which will allow it to fast-track priority projects to augment, or procure non-network services with respect to, the Victorian transmission system.
Ahead of the legislation being passed, the Government has asked AEMO to call for expressions of interest to increase the capacity of the Victoria-New South Wales Interconnector.
At this stage, the call for expressions of interest is expected to be for the provision of a System Integrity Protection Scheme (SIPS) service capable of enabling an additional import capacity of up to 250MW on the existing Victoria - New South Wales interconnector. The call for expressions of interest will take a technology neutral approach in order to understand the various options that are available to provide this SIPS service, as well as what if any additional services or market benefits various options could provide.
This process is distinct from, and separate to, the RIT-T and procurement processes that AEMO is currently undertaking for transmission augmentation projects under the National Electricity Rules.

Call for Expressions of Interest (CEI) key dates:

  • 2 March 2020: CEI sent to registered applicants
  • 16 March 2020: Deadline for receipt of responses

Please note, the Invitation to Tender (ITT) timing is dependent on the legislative process timing and the outcome of the CEI.
