      • AEMO operates gas retail markets in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria, and Western Australia. AEMO also operates wholesale gas markets in south-eastern Australia, those being the Declared Wholesale Gas Market in Victoria (DWGM), the Short Term Trading Market in Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney (STTM), and the Gas Supply Hub (GSH), whose trading locations are based at Wallumbilla in Queensland, and Moomba in South Australia. AEMO also operates the Natural Gas Services Bulletin Board (GBB), and is system operator of the Victorian Gas Declared Transmission System. AEMO is also responsible for Gas Services Information functions in Western Australia.

  • The Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO) provides technical and market data that informs the decision-making processes of market participants, new investors, and jurisdictional bodies as they assess opportunities in the National Electricity Market (NEM) over a 10-year outlook period.

    AEMO is currently consulting on the scenarios, inputs, assumptions, methodology, timeline and consultation process for a collection of Forecasting and Planning publications, including the 2019 NEM ESOO.

    2018 Electricity Statement of Opportunities

    The 2018 ESOO provides a projected outlook to 2027–28 of supply adequacy under a number of scenarios, including:

    • The impact of additional renewable generation in response to Australia’s federal and state renewable energy targets, and
    • Potential generation outage events that may challenge reliability of supply.

    The 2018 ESOO was prepared by AEMO using information available at 31 July 2018. Information made available after this date may have been included in this publication where practical.
