Reserve Capacity Mechanism

The Reserve Capacity Mechanism (RCM) education session provides background on the need for RCM, and associated principles and features in the Western Australian Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM). Attendees are expected to have some prior knowledge of the WEM or have participated in the WEM Introduction course.

This course is delivered in-person or fully online over one half-day. This course would benefit both existing Market Participants and future proponents intending to participate in the RCM.

  • Overview and Introduction of the RCM
  • The Certified Reserve Capacity process
  • The concept of Capacity Credits
  • Obligations of Facilities assigned Capacity Credits
  • Consequences of failing to meet Reserve Capacity obligations
  • Reserve Capacity pricing
  • The NAQ framework
  • Overview of Supplementary Reserve Capacity (SRC)
Learning outcomes:

Attendees will gain an in-depth knowledge into the Reserve Capacity Mechanism and how this supports the WEM.

This course is free for WEM Market Participants and $200 (plus GST) per person for all others.
