Updates to the Statement of Opportunities

On the 20th of April 2006 the AEMC amended the National Electricity Rules, removing the requirement on NEMMCO to publish an annual update to the ESOO every January, and imposing an ongoing information disclosure regime instead. Full details of the rule change are available from the AEMC website.

AEMO must publish as soon as practicable significant information it has become aware of regarding changes to:

  • regional energy and demand forecasts;
  • the capability, retirement or status of existing or committed generation units; and
  • national transmission flow paths, or to projects that will affect the capacity of these flow paths.

AEMO receives advice regarding information in the ESOO from a range of parties, including Registered Participants, the Jurisdictional Planning Bodies and the Inter-regional Planning Committee.

In order for AEMO to publish information updating the ESOO these parties will need to bring any new information to AEMO's attention. To facilitate the provision of ESOO update information , an email address was created for this purpose: soo.update@aemo.com.au.

Upon receipt of significant new information updating the ESOO, AEMO will update the data on the Generation Information page.

Enquiries regarding ESOO Updates should be directed to soo.update@aemo.com.au, or to Andrew Groom on (03) 9648 8781.
