South Australian Advisory Functions

The South Australian advisory functions are independent reports prepared by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) and published for the South Australian jurisdiction in accordance with Division 2, Subdivision 2, Section 50B of the National Electricity Law, under which the South Australian Government may request that AEMO undertake additional advisory functions for the South Australian Declared Power System.

Prior to 2012, this information was provided in the South Australian Supply and Demand Outlook (SASDO). This year, several changes have been made to the process to improve the way AEMO releases information to the South Australian jurisdiction. Rather than a single report each year, a collection of advisory reports for South Australia will be released gradually over the year.

An important outcome of this change is that accurate historical data for each year can be used in analyses rather than pro-rata (estimated) data which has been used in previous SASDO’s. Forecasting and generation information will now be aligned with AEMO’s other publications to reduce repetition and improve consistency across AEMO’s suite of reports.

Tying all of the information together will be a new South Australian Electricity Report (SAER) which will be more a compact publication compared to previous years, focussing on key findings and insights from the content published over the year.

The documents being produced as part of AEMO’s South Australian advisory functions are listed below.
