Electricity Statement of Opportunities
Update
Under the Electricity Rules, AEMO is required to provide an update if there are changes to generation or demand forecasts, as there have been in the last six months.
This ESOO update has determined that the changes in the generation fleet have had minimal impact on the Low Reserve Condition (LRC) outlook provided in the 2012 ESOO.
2012 Electricity Statement of Opportunities
The 2012 Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO) was published by AEMO on 9 August 2012. The ESOO provides an assessment of supply adequacy in the National Electricity Market over the next 10 years, highlighting opportunities for generation and demand-side investment.
In 2012 AEMO moved away from the publication of a small number of large planning reports towards producing smaller reports on specific planning issues as information becomes available. As a result the 2012 ESOO is a significantly shorter document than in previous years, providing the results of the supply-demand outlook and summarising generation capacity information and the latest demand projections. Further information concerning demand, generation and the NEM is available from a range of supporting documents that have already been published on the AEMO website. These reports are listed on this page under “Additional Information”.
AEMO is publishing its planning reports online in 2012 to improve the accessibility of our reports and to provide you with the latest information. High-quality print friendly PDFs are available from this site.
This publication has been prepared by AEMO using information available at 1 July 2012, however the impact of changes after this date were assessed where practical. Separate chapters of the ESOO can be accessed through the links in the following table.
