Energy Adequacy Assessment Projection (EAAP)

National Electricity Rules (Rules) require AEMO to establish the Energy Adequacy Assessment Projection (EAAP) process and publish the first EAAP report by 31 March 2010. Rules also require AEMO to comply with EAAP guidelines in preparing EAAP. The EAAP report provides vital information on the impact of drought in eastern and south eastern Australia on generation capacity in the National Electricity Market (NEM).

The EAAP guidelines can be accessed using the following web link:

http://www.aemo.com.au/electricityops/408-0001.html

The EAAP covers a 24 month timeframe and replaces the quarterly Drought Scenario Investigation series of reports published by AEMO.  Like the previous Drought Scenario Investigation reports, the EAAP will be updated and released every three months, however it provides further detail on the generating units impacted by water restrictions.

Under the EAAP’s data collation process, all scheduled generators in the NEM are required to submit to AEMO information regarding the effect of water shortages on their production outputs. This data provides a broader and more accurate assessment of drought related impacts on supply and reliability in the NEM, and builds on the level of information provided in the previous drought studies which covered only those generators most likely to be impacted by drought.

EAAP consists of two reports, EAAP public report and private EAAP reports for each Generator who owns scheduled generating units or hydro power schemes.

The EAAP public report and the updates are attached to this web page and the EAAP private reports are delivered to scheduled generators electronically via AEMO systems.
