AEMO manages both wholesale and retail markets in electricity and gas across eastern and south-eastern Australia.
As a wholesale market operator, AEMO also oversees the vital system operations and security of Australia’s National Electricity Market and Victorian gas transmission network.
In its role as National Transmission Planner, AEMO delivers essential planning advice and forecasting to guide long term investment in Australia’s energy network infrastructure and resource management.
AEMO works in consultation with industry and government to further develop and improve Australia’s gas and electricity markets.
AEMO has been established as a corporate entity limited by guarantee under the Corporations Law and operates on a cost recovery basis. Its structure is split between government and industry members, respectively 60 and 40 per cent, with this arrangement to be reviewed after the first three years of operation. Government members include the Queensland, New South Wales, Victorian, South Australian and Tasmanian state governments, the Commonwealth and the Australian Capital Territory.

The AEMO Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a three-year rotational development program whereby graduates will gain experience in separate business areas across AEMO. You will have the opportunity to gain sound training in either gas, electricity or information technology by working alongside a team of technical experts while developing your professional career.
The program is targeted specifically at graduates who are looking for a unique and challenging career within the Australian energy industry.

Throughout the AEMO Graduate Development Program, successful graduates will enjoy the benefits of:The AEMO Graduate Development Program (GDP) is completed over 3 years and comprises 4 rotations through different Divisions within AEMO. Each rotation offers a different perspective of the National Electricity Market (NEM) and Victorian Gas Market and as a graduate you will have the opportunity to work with local and interstate teams and learn from a range of AEMO team members.
Each Development Program consists of multiple rotations of approximately 9 months in duration.
