2012 National Transmission Network Development Plan Consultation

AEMO intends to publish its 2012 National Transmission Network Development Plan (NTNDP) by 31 December 2012. The NTNDP provides an independent strategic view of the efficient development of the National Electricity Market (NEM) national transmission network over a 20-year planning horizon.

The NTNDP and the Gas Statement of Opportunities (GSOO), AEMO’s other national planning report, use a common set of study assumptions. Some assumptions will also be used for the Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO), Victorian Annual Planning Report (VAPR) and South Australian Supply and Demand Outlook (SASDO).

AEMO is currently consulting on the study assumptions for 2012, and stakeholders are invited to comment on them. For more information about the consultation, see Planning Studies 2012 Consultation.

The 2012 Planning Studies Assumptions Consultation incorporates the 2012 NTNDP Consultation, and the consultation paper includes AEMO’s proposals for the 2012 NTNDP.

AEMO welcomes comments from stakeholders at any time, but given the time needed for modelling and analysis, feedback on the proposals in the consultation paper and the planning assumptions available from the AEMO website is sought by 13 March 2012.

AEMO is also working with stakeholders to understand how the 2012 NTNDP can usefully address issues that are emerging in the energy market.

These issues might include matters considered in the Energy White Paper being developed by the Australian Government Department of Energy, Resources and Tourism (DRET), the Australian Energy Market Commission’s Transmission Frameworks Review and the Productivity Commission’s Public Inquiry into Electricity Network Regulation.

AEMO encourages stakeholders to provide their views during the first half of 2012. While AEMO endeavours to take account of all views, if views are received earlier they are more likely to have an impact on the 2012 NTNDP.

Any questions about the consultation should be sent by email to: planning@aemo.com.au.
