2010 National Transmission Network Development Plan
The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) published its inaugural National Transmission Network Development Plan (NTNDP) on 15 December 2010.
The NTNDP is an independent strategic plan for the National Electricity Market transmission network. In this plan AEMO explores a wide range of scenarios to determine potential electricity transmission impacts. The scenarios are based on several drivers, the two most prominent being demand growth and carbon price. The NTNDP aims to provide the energy industry with a comprehensive information source to enable dialogue and support the development of a responsive transmission network.
The NTNDP includes four key result areas:
- Network outcomes
- Generation clusters
- Large-scale interconnector pre-feasibility study (NEMLink)
- Renewable energy
The NTNDP comprises:
- Executive Briefing: provides the key findings of the NTNDP, in the four key result areas, and summarises the scenarios and electricity demand and generation outlook.
- Main Report: provides the detailed results of the NTNDP modelling, by scenario and by geographical zone. Results are also provided for generation clusters, the large-scale interconnector pre-feasibility study (NEMLink) and Network Support and Control Ancillary Services. Also includes details of the methodology used to develop the NTNDP results.
- Supporting Information: detailed inputs and results, including energy and maximum demand forecasts, the time-sequential market simulation database, generation and transmission development, network utilisation and congestion, network capability, NEMLink supplementary information and locations of generation and transmission development under the scenarios (an interactive map).
