B2B - Business to Business
Generic term used to refer to defined business-to-business interactions between Participants in the electricity or gas retail markets (e.g. between electricity retailers and electricity distributors, or between gas retailers and gas networks).
This excludes interactions between a Participant and market systems such as Market Settlement And Transfer Solution which are B2M (Business-to-Market) interactions
Backcasting involes 'forecasting' historical maximum demands (MDs), whcih involves applying the current forecasting model to project values of seasonal MD that have already occurred, but were not used in deriving the forecasting model. Backcasting takes actual economic and climatic conditions and temperatures into account to produce a single point MD projection for each season for comparison with the actual (historical) seasonal MDs.
A power generator that operates most of the time. This is in contrast to a peaking power generator that operates intermittently to meet peak demand.
Base load generating system
A generating system designed to run almost constantly at near maximum capacity levels, usually at lower cost than intermediate or peaking generating systems.
BoD - Beginning of Gas Day
8AM in Qld, 6.30AM in Sydney & Adelaide, 6AM in Victoria, all Eastern Standard Time
In the gas market a generic term for the submission made by a trading participant to withdraw specified quantities of gas at specified prices. Bids should, in general, be referred to explicitly by type as "ex ante bid", "price taker bid", or "contingency gas bid".
In the electricity market scheduled NEM generators submit to AEMO offers indicating the volume of electricity they are prepared to produce for a specified price. National Gas Rules definition :
A bid by a Market Participant in accordance with Division 2, Subdivision 1 to inject quantities of gas into, or withdraw quantities of gas from, the declared transmission system during a gas day, or such a bid as modified by that Market Participant in accordance with Division 2.
National Electricity Rules definition :
Data submitted by scheduled generators, semi-scheduled generators and market participants to AEMO in relation to their scheduled loads, scheduled generating units, semi-scheduled generating units and scheduled market network services in accordance with schedule 3.1.
A constraint that affects dispatch, A situation whereby the flows on a given powerline are holding at level of the constraint.
binding constraint equation
A constraint equation that is actively influencing central dispatch process outcomes.
black start capability
In relation to a generating unit, the ability to start and synchronise without using supply from the power system.
A capability that allows a generating unit, following its disconnection from the power system, to be able to deliver electricity to either: (a) its connection point; or (b) a suitable point in the network from which supply can be made available to other generating units, without taking supply from any part of the power system following disconnection.
A widespread blackout that can result from a major disturbance when most or all generators have automatically disconnected from the network in order to protect themselves. The black system may last for several hours whilst generators are progressively reconnected.
National Electricity Rules Definition :
The absence of voltage on all or a significant part of the transmission system or within a region during a major supply disruption affecting a significant number of customers.
