A review of EDD312 (2009) was conducted in 2012 and resulted in an update to the index coefficients to provide a closer correlation with demand. This updated EDD is known as EDD312 (2012). Whilst EDD312 (2012) was shown to be more closely correlated to demand, the performance of EDD312 (2012) and EDD312 (2009) are comparable.
The EDD312 (2009) formula is shown in the table below.

0.038 * DD312 * 0.604 * Wind312
0.18 * Sunshine hours
2 * Cosine (2*PI*(day – 200)/365)
EDD312 (2009) is superseded by the EDD312 (2012). Results from the 2012 review indicated that EDD312 (2012) coefficients for wind chill, isolation and seasonality have changed slightly compared to EDD312 (2009). These changes are highlighted in amber in the table above.
A localisation factor is applied to account for the shift from the Melbourne wind station (closed in 1999) to the average of Laverton and Moorabbin wind stations in order to align them with the Melbourne wind station reading. This factor is highlighted in red.
