The Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO) uses current information provided by industry to report on the adequacy of existing and committed generation and transmission capacity in the National Electricity Market to meet maximum demand and annual operational consumption forecasts over the next 10 years.
Update: Electricity Statement of Opportunities
The recent announcement that Northern Power Station will be withdrawn by 31 March 2016 is considered significant new information, requiring a published update to the 2015 ESOO. This ESOO update focuses on implications for supply demand balance in South Australia over the three-year period to 2017-18.
2015 Electricity Statement of Opportunities
This publication has been prepared by AEMO using information available at 1 July 2015, however the impact of changes after this date have been assessed where practical.

ESOO modelling results
The following files contain a summary of any unserved energy or Low Reserve Condition (LRC) points, generation mix, supply-demand at times of maximum demand, and interconnector flow for each region, under high, medium and low demand scenarios.

2015 ESOO data can also be viewed on AEMO’s Interactive Planning Map, under the Supply Information menu item.
ESOO model, constraints and data
AEMO’s time-sequential model database is provided for reference, along with the demand traces and constraints used for the modelling. In 2015, AEMO is releasing both the Prophet and PLEXOS versions of the constraints to cater for stakeholders who use each package.
AEMO continues to update and refine constraints through modelling projects undertaken throughout the year, and welcomes feedback to incorporate improvements into future studies where possible.
